The Midnight Sun
The Midnight Sun
This name evokes the contrast between the dark and light tones of the black limba wood and the, normally, light, golden tones of quarter-sawn white oak that are now shown in a different light. It’s a name that fits this piece as both bold and beautiful. This mid-century modern coffee table design was inspired by one of our favorite designers. Golden hues and gorgeous dark chocolate streaking of the Black Limba table top are perfectly complemented by a stained quarter-sawn White Oak table base. Floating mortise and tenon joinery make this a strong, sturdy table with steep, interesting angles for the modern-styled furniture lover. See below for more details!
One of our primary missions at Mr. & Mrs. Woodshop is to create beautiful, functional pieces that bring people together. Even in our furniture pieces, we believe in food-safe finishes, and we don’t believe in using products that could introduce harmful chemicals into your home.
Black Limba originates from tropical Western Africa and is not listed as an endangered species. Its unique and gorgeous grain pattern creates a one-of-a-kind, distinct conversational piece. White Oak is a prized species for furniture making that often grows in the Eastern United States. Particularly quarter-sawn white oak is often regarded as the premier species to work with due to the way the lumber is milled. This unique milling process yields a more stable product and it has some added beauty in the “rays” that form in the grain. Despite the dark nature of the stain we used, the rays are still visible; we aren’t photographers though, so unfortunately, we are not the best at capturing the best lighting.
